Admissions Procedure

  • Visit admissions.cmr.edu.in
  • Verify your eligibility criteria at https://www.cmr.edu.in/cmruprograms/
  • Fill the Application Form, and upload the required academic certificates/documents, complete payment of the requisite application fee.
  • Fulfill the Eligibility Criteria (AIU Equivalency Certificate to be obtained in case required) and receive an Admission Offer letter with the fee structure and Bank Account Details.
  • Students having qualified from foreign universities/boards recognized as equivalent by the ‘Association of Indian Universities (AIU) are eligible for admission. You would have to produce your AIU Equivalence Certificate at the time of admission. To apply for the AIU Equivalence Certificate, you would need to produce the following documents:
    For Bachelor’s Degree

    • Grade 10 Certificate/ Marks sheet
    • Grade 12th Certificate / Marks sheet
  • For Post Graduate Degree
    • Grade 10 Certificate/ Marks sheet

    • Pay the requisite fees for seat blocking/registration after which you will be issued the Provisional Admissions and Student Visa letters.
    • Visit the campus and submit your original documents and complete payment of the remaining fee amount for admissions to the first year.
    • Start attending classes.
    • Do not forget to register yourself with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of your arrival in India to obtain your residence permit.

English Language Requirement

All International applicants are required to satisfy one of the following English Language Requirements irrespective of the program in which they are seeking admission, i.e., if an applicant is seeking admission in a program where English is not prescribed as a compulsory course in the eligibility condition, even then he or she has to satisfy one of the following English Language requirements.

  • The applicant must have passed the English course in the standard 10th or higher examination.
  • The applicant has to complete his/her education (eligibility qualification or higher) at some university/school where English has been the medium of instruction. In such cases, the applicant has to provide proof of the same from the University/School or have to provide a document that is available on the official website of the University/school.
  • In the case of applicants who do not fall into any of the above categories, he or she has to provide one of the following proofs of English language proficiency.
    • ILETS BAND of 5.5
    • TOEFL (ICBT) score of 70 or equivalent in any of the TOEFL format

Visa

a. Visa Requirement

  • Foreign Nationals coming into India are required to possess a valid passport of their country and a valid Indian Visa. The only exceptions are nationals of Nepal and Bhutan who can enter India without a visa
  • To study in India, it is mandatory for an international student to procure an Indian Student Visa.
  • Visas can be applied for in person or by post (in certain High Commissions/Embassies, it is the responsibility of the student to check with the particular embassy on the postal visa application) to the High Commission of India based in the country from which the candidate intends to depart for India.
  • Applicant need to mention the name of the Institute while applying for the visa, which is then mentioned on their visa.
  • International students taking admission to CMR University should make sure that the Student Visa is endorsed to CMR University by the visa issuing authority.
  • A request for a change of university or institution subsequently made cannot be considered. In this case, you would be required to go back to your home country and apply for a new visa. If you have entered India on basis of documents provided by the University then it is your responsibility to ensure that you directly join and report to the University. The Visa endorsed in the name of the University or obtained on the basis of university documents cannot be used for any other purpose like employment, admission to any other university/college/institute/academy, etc., or for non-regular (distance/online) mode of education.
  • After reaching the university students shall get the visa verified by the University and deposit a copy of the valid visa.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that throughout his/her study period student is on a valid visa.
  • In case the initial visa is not endorsed for the complete duration of the program or the student has to extend the stay because he/she is not able to complete the program in the stipulated time then the student should apply for the extension of the visa before the visa expires.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the visa should be applied for well in advance and on time. It generally takes 3-8 weeks to get the Indian Visa thus it is advisable to apply for the visa accordingly and consult the Indian High Commission/Embassy if required.
  • In case a student reports to the university late because of the Visa/Tickets Availability or any other personal issue, no relaxation related to attendance or any favor completing the assignment, submitting the missed assignments, sitting for the missed examination(s), relaxation in the marks, etc. will be given.
  • Students joining the university after the prescribed time period may be denied admission. In such cases, the fees etc., deposited by the applicant would be forfeited and further, no claim for the expense made for the traveling, visa, or any other expense made or hardship suffered by the student will be entertained.
  • Even after joining the university, if the student leaves the country then it is the responsibility of the student to report back to the university on time. In some cases where a visa extension is required, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure to get the valid visa extension on time.
  • If in case the student is expelled from the university or the student decides to leave the program then an affidavit has to be submitted to the university that he/she will leave India immediately and will not use a visa issued on the basis of CMRU documents to stay in India.
  • The University may debar the student to continue attending classes or staying in the university residential facility if a student does not maintain a valid visa/ FRRO or does not follow any guidelines issued by the Govt. of India/ Govt. of Karnataka/University/ any other authority from time to time.
  • For loss of attendance/ academics or any expenditure that occurred because of such action by the university, the student himself will be responsible and no relaxation or benefit may be provided in such cases and all expenditure has to be borne by the student.

b. FRRO Information

  • It is part of the normal mandatory process that within the stipulated timeframe of arrival in India, the student has to register his/ her name with the police in the designated Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) i.e. at Bangalore.
  • The time frame or rules for the FRRO may vary from 24 hours to 14 days of arrival depending on the country of origin, thus seek the most updated information from the Ministry of External Affair website.
  • University would only provide necessary assistance in this regard and it is the responsibility of the students to get the registration done and provide a copy of the FRRO certificate to the University within the stipulated time as prescribed by the University from time to time. Failure to do so may lead to cancellation of the admission.
  • The applicable processing fees for the FRRO/Visa extension/immigration processing fees and other related expenses have to be additionally borne by the student.
  • It is also the responsibility of the student to inform the designated FRRO in case they are leaving the county (both in case of temporary movements like going for holidays and also in case students want to permanently leave the county because the program is over or students wants to discontinue the program or student has been expelled or have been denied admission.)
  • Students are not required to register him/her on each visit as long as he/she is visiting on the same visa on which he/she is registered earlier. However, the registered foreigner needs to report to FRRO, if; re-enters India on a fresh visa.
  • Further, if the registered foreigner obtains a new passport during the validity of his registration and visa, then the foreigner is required to get the visa transferred to his new passport from FRRO.
  • Also, in case there are any changes in the foreign registration rule then University may seek more information as required from the student and/or can direct to follow the most recent guidelines as applicable and define by the government from time to time.
  • University may debar the student to continue attending classes or staying in the university residential facility if student does not maintain a valid visa/ FRRO or does not follow any guidelines issued by the Govt. of India/ Govt. of Karnataka/University/ any other authority from time to time.
  • For loss of attendance/ academics or any expenditure that occurred because of such action by the university, the student himself will be responsible and no relaxation or benefit may be provided in such cases and all expenditure has to be borne by the student

FAQs

 1. What is a student Visa?

Depending on the purpose of the visit, India offers various kinds of visas. Student Visa is specifically for students wanting to come to India for education purposes. Generally, Student Visas are issued for the duration of the academic course of study or for a period of five years whichever is less, on the basis of letters of admission from Universities/recognized colleges or educational institutions in India. However, it is the discretion of the Indian High Commission to decide the duration of the Student Visa. The children of NRIs and PIOs cardholders need not procure a Student Visa. Other international students need Student Visa or Research Visa for Doctoral level courses.

 3. Can I change my University/Institution after coming to India?

No, it is not allowed to change the University/College. You need to mention the name of the Institute while applying for the visa, which is then mentioned on the visa. A request for a change of university or institution subsequently made cannot be considered. In this case, you would be required to go back to your home country and apply for a new visa.

 4. Can I get my Tourist Visa converted to a Student Visa?

If you come to India on a Tourist or any other type of Visa, you cannot get that Visa changed to Student Visa. According to Government regulations, if an international student coming to India on a Tourist or any other type of Visa (except a Student Visa), obtains admission into a university or any institution in India, the student will be required to return to his/her home country and obtain a new visa (i.e. the Student Visa) from the Indian mission there.

 5. How much is the Student Visa fee?

The Student Visa fee depends on the nationality of the passport holder and the type/duration of the visa applied. This fee is payable in the local currency as well. Please check with the Indian embassy in your country for the exact visa fee.

 7. What is FRRO registration and how we can register?

It is mandatory for all international students to register themselves with the local FRRO, within 14 days of their arrival in India (arrival date mentioned on the Visa), from the 15th day late registration fee will be charged by FRRO Office. The student has to register him/herself by using the link-> http://indianfrro.gov.in/frro.

 8. What are the formalities if I just want to visit my home country during my vacation?

You must have a valid Indian visa for visiting back to your country. In case your visa has expired then you first need to apply for the renewal of your Visa from the FRRO office. Once you have a valid visa then you can apply for the return exit permit online and collect it from the FRRO office in Bangalore. It is very important that you carry the exit permit as this is required to be produced at the airport immigration.

 9. When I want to leave the university after the completion of the program then what are the formalities?

You must complete the No–Dues formalities at the university and you must check and ensure that you don’t have any pending courses that are required for the award of the degree. Apply for transcripts, migration certificate, provisional degree, and character certificate, and collect your original documents which you submitted at the time of admission.

Once you have a valid visa then you can apply for the exit permit online and collect it from the FRRO office in Bangalore. It is very important that you carry the exit permit as this is required to be produced at the airport immigration. In case your visa has expired then you first need to apply for the renewal of your Visa from the FRRO office.

 11. Is it mandatory to attend the Induction program?

Yes, CMRU welcomes you as a new member of the CMR family and wishes that you should get the complete information about your University, its education system, examination system, policies, disciplines, local setup and governance, Indian culture and heritage, etc. right at the time of your joining. We strongly recommend that you should definitely attend the induction program.

 13. How often can a student approach a professor or mentor to clarify his/her doubts?

Apart from the academic sessions, students are free to approach professors for one-on-one sessions on areas of difficulty for all subjects. If the professor should be unavailable during a particular period, their Mentor will help students with all their queries as well as work with them for a longer period to overcome any challenges if they should need assistance.

 14. Should students bring their own laptops?

Students must carry their own laptops to campus when they move in. Almost all courses require constant use of laptops in the form of preparation for assignments, exams, or assignments.

 16. How can I check whether I am eligible for the opted program?

To check the minimum eligibility requirement for admission in a particular program, the student has to share his/her 10th and 12th grade or ‘O’ and ‘A’ level marks-card with our international admission team. The team will check the student’s eligibility and communicate the same to the student over email within 24 hours.

 19. What is an acceptance letter?

After the successful submission of the provisional Registration fee, University will issue you Acceptance Letter with which you can apply for a student visa at the nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate.

An acceptance letter includes details about:

  1. Program Name and Session.
  2. The program fee per year.
  3. The Examination Fee.
  4. Scholarship (if applicable)
  5. Other useful information for students
