Programme Overview

The B.Arch. programme is strong in the fundamentals of architectural theory and practice, and responds to the changing definitions of architecture in the Indian and global contexts. The emphasis on ‘Practice to Theory’ and ‘Theory to Practice’ makes the B.Arch. programme competitive and relevant. The maker-centred pedagogy is an integrated process of directed, experiential, hands-on, reflective and independent learning. Being a systemic interdisciplinary course, it focuses on creative problem solving and instils self-motivation to learn. This B.Arch. course will impart knowledge and skills required to design built environments required for human habitation.

Following an undergraduate education in architecture, one may choose to specialize in Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Conservation, Urban Design, Industrial Design, Visual Communication and Service Design. Programme Educational Objectives

  • To impart the skill of developing a brief for a design project based on the requirements of the client.
  • To impart the ability to understand the statutory requirements of the corporation/ municipality etc and follow the byelaws applicable to the given site.
  • To impart the techniques of site analysis including slope analysis, climatic analysis, analysis of views, access, services, vegetation etc.
  • To enable the performance of site zoning- to locate the different components of the building on the most suitable parts of the site.
  • To enable the articulation in spatial terms, the functional and emotional aspirations of the client and to harmonize the building with the surroundings.
  • To provide understanding and appreciation of various structural concepts and systems and ability to incorporate them into a given design.
  • To provide the knowledge of various service systems like water supply and sanitation, electrical, lighting, ventilation and air-conditioning, acoustics and firefighting technology and integrate them into design.
  • To provide an insight into the aesthetic principles which guide the creation of pleasing compositions of built environment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A pass in the 10+2 scheme of examination with at least 50 percent aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or a pass in 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject with at least 50 per cent marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC students).
  • The candidate needs to qualify an Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) or JEE Mains (Paper 2) or any other entrance tests conducted by the State or Central government.
  • Weightage of 50 per cent marks for aptitude tests and 50 per cent marks in the qualifying examination will be considered for the admission.

Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation is based on the Continuous and Comprehensive evaluation(CCE)  and Term end examination (TEE). The CCE is done by the course teacher / teachers on a continuous basis through out the semester as prescribed for studio courses, theory courses and practical courses. The criteria for passing is a minimum of 50 percent in the CCE and 40 percent in TEE. The aggregate of CCE and TTE will form the basis for letter grades and the calculation of semester Grade Point Average (SGPA), and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
