Dr. D.H. Rao, Dean

Dr. D.H. Rao has over 37 years of experience in teaching and administration, and has guided more than eight PhD students. He obtained an M.E. degree from Madras University in 1979, and three years prior a B.E. degree in Electronics from BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore. He also holds an M.S. (1990) and Ph.D. (1994) from the University of Sakatoon, Canada with a specialisation in neural networks and robotic control, and an EMBA and Ph.D. in the area of NLP with applications in HR.

Dr. D.H. Rao’s long and illustrious career began at MS Ramaiah College of Engineering, Bangalore, after which he moved to Canada in 1988 and then the United States. Upon his return to India, he took up the role of Professor and Head of Department, Electronics and Communication until he became the Principal of Gogte Institute of Technology in 2000, a position that he held till 2009. He was the founder Principal and Director of Jain Group of Institutions and Jain College of Engineering, Belgaum.

He has served as a Member of Belgaum District Task Force, Member of Academic Senate, VTU, Belgaum, Member of Executive Council, VTU, Belgaum, Member of Post-Graduate Board of National Institute of Technology (NITK), Suratkal, Karnataka., Member of Recruitment Committee, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and Member of Goa Public Service Commission.

Dr DH Rao has published over 125 papers in national and international journals in the areas of neural networks, fuzzy logic, cryptography, e-learning, NLP, stress management, and HR, and several books. A Senior member of IEEE as well as a Fellow of IETE, he has chaired and given many invited talks in national and international conferences and has numerous awards and accolades to his credit.
