Students of CMR University, one of the best law colleges in Bangalore, have yet again made the University proud. This time, Riddhi Das Gupta of the CMR University School of Legal Studies won the AP Goyal Shimla University’s first National Open Moot Court competition held in Shimla.
Ms Riddhi Dasgupta managed to outclass teams from other reputed universities (and colleges) in India on her way to glory. There were 51 teams in the preliminary round, and 22 in the semi-finals. Out of these, only two teams qualified for the finals; these were CMR University (CMRU) School of Legal Studies and OP Jindal Global Law School.
Theme of this year’s competition was, “Whether provisions of the Indian Penal Code 1860, are sufficient to deal with the mob lynching crisis?”
Here, students were required to prepare and present both sides of the issue. The competition consisted of 3 rounds with different sets of judges in each round. The final was judged by sitting judges of the Himachal Pradesh High court.
Ms. Dasgupta scored 96 in the preliminaries, 91 in the semifinals and an identical 91 in the finals. With these scores, she was the top-paced contestant in each of the rounds and continued her streak in the finale as well.
This achievement is a reflection of the emphasis on quality argumentative skills and design thinking modules, both of which are the significant aspects of CMR University’s integrated law course. Being one of the top law colleges in Bangalore, CMR University is dedicated to creating responsible individuals who stand by truth and justice.
