With a structured placement ecosystem, industry-aligned training, and a strong focus on soft skills and technical readiness, the university ensures students graduate with the confidence and competence to thrive in today’s competitive job market.
By Dr. Saravana Prasad, Head, Placements, CMR University (City Campus)
At CMR University, preparing students to be industry-ready is a priority embedded into the academic journey from day one. This is made possible through a structured and comprehensive approach led by our dedicated Training and Placement Centre.
Each institute under CMR University operates its own placement cell, headed by a senior professor and director. This decentralised model ensures focused attention tailored to the specific needs of students across disciplines. The core mission of these centres is to understand evolving industry requirements and equip students with the skills and confidence to thrive in competitive, real-world environments.
“Once a student joins CMR, placement training begins,” I always tell our incoming batches. “Verbal and non-verbal communication, along with corporate behavioural psychology, are introduced early on to build a strong foundation.”
A key part of our training strategy involves exclusive programmes focused on soft skills and aptitude development. These include regular online assessments that allow students to evaluate themselves across a range of competencies. The goal is to ensure they are not only technically sound but also personally equipped to navigate the expectations of modern workplaces.
In the third semester, we introduce sample aptitude questions and conduct group discussions. We have also partnered with CodeTantra to ensure all students are trained in basic coding. This is complemented by regular sessions on soft skills, mock interviews, CV preparation, and LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter) profile optimisation.
To deepen industry exposure, we regularly organise workshops, guest lectures, and seminars featuring corporate leaders and domain experts. These interactive sessions provide insights into emerging trends, sector-specific challenges, and the qualities employers value. Students also benefit from participation in extracurricular events that expand their perspectives and allow them to build professional networks organically.
Pre-placement talks are an integral part of our engagement model. We invite corporate partners to brief students about open roles and share expectations directly. Additionally, we incorporate alumni feedback from those placed in top companies, offering current batches an insider’s view into workplace realities.
From the moment they step onto campus, our students receive structured guidance to support both their academic and career development. We encourage them to actively pursue opportunities for hands-on learning alongside their coursework. This dual focus ensures that they graduate as well-rounded professionals, academically sound, emotionally intelligent, and ready for the modern workplace.
Our Training and Placement Centre takes full responsibility for shaping students’ careers. We provide targeted training, company-specific preparation based on job descriptions, and personalised guidance from application to joining. Placement interviews are centrally conducted at the City Campus, with coordinators supporting students at every stage.
The industry, we have observed, consistently looks for four key traits in graduates:
- The right attitude: willingness to learn and the ability to work effectively in teams;
- Strong fundamentals: robust domain knowledge;
- Flexibility: openness to relocation and alignment with company expectations;
- Communication skills: both verbal and written.
In the case of international recruiters offering high-value roles, the expectation is clear: exceptional technical proficiency, alongside these core competencies.CMR University’s multi-dimensional approach combining skill development, professional exposure and holistic personal growth, ensures that our students are not just prepared for placements, but equipped to excel and lead in the global workforce.
