The orientation program for the newly admitted undergraduate students of BBA, BBA (Hons.), BCA, B.Com., B.Com. (Hons.), B.Com. (IAF) and BA (Hons.) was organised from 12th July, 2018 to 20th July, 2018. Students and their parents were formally welcomed and introduced to the culture of the School, campus and University.
The orientation began with a brief inaugural ceremony at our OMBR Campus. The dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof. M.S. Shivakumar (Vice-Chancellor), Dr. Bhaskar Reddy (Director – CMRGI), Dr. R. Praveen (Registrar), Dr. Shiv K Tripathi (Dean, City Campus), Prof. Suja B (Principal, CMRIMS), Dr.Annapoorna (Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities), Dr. Basanna Patagundi (Director, School of Management) and Dr. Srinivas K.T. (Director, School of Economics and Commerce).
The second day of the program started with an ice-breaker session with the Faculty members. The students spent the whole day interacting with each other and knowing the faculty members in a fun-filled environment. The session was handled by Dr. Prity (Associate Professor), Dr. Anouja Mohanty (Assistant Professor), Mrs. Nandita (Assistant Professor), Ms. Sandhya (Teaching Associate), Ms. Bhagya, (Teaching Associate) of CMR University followed by a campus tour by the program coordinators. Student Volunteers of senior batch also helped to carry out this activity.
On 14, July 2018, the day started with a detailed discussion by Dr. Narendra and Ms. Celestina on the placement activities carried out by the University. The students were also briefed about required training programs planned to develop competencies to approach the job market. The second half of the day was devoted for team building activities and introduction to sports by Dr. Lohith, Ms. Sandhya, and Ms. Bhagya.
On the next day, the session started with an introduction to the ERP system by Mrs. Aparna Shenoy and Mr. Nikhil. Students were welcomed to various clubs of the university in the next session by Ms. Sandhya and Ms. Bhagya. As part of the orientation Dr. Gopal Raghav, CEO, Organisational Development Consulting was present in the campus and explained the students how to set their career goals.
The detailed program structure and evaluation criteria were explained to students by Dr. Subhasree Kar (Associate Professor), Mrs Jayalaxmi (Assistant Professor), Mrs. Santha Ganesh Iyer (Teaching Associate), and Mrs. Sujata (Teaching Associate). Dr. Shiv K Tripathi also addressed the students and advised them to be focused on academics. Self assessment of the students were conducted through Psychometric tests. All the students got an opportunity to assess their mental ability and locus of control through psychometric tests administered by Mrs. Satarupa Anderson (Assistant Professor) and Ms. Deepthi (Teaching Associate) of School of Social Sciences and Humanities.
During the orientation, an interesting event was also conducted called “For a Better World Tomorrow”. This was based on the themes of sustainable development. In this event, students presented their posters, collage, video presentations, photography and role plays on various themes like water shortage, ecological balance, responsible use of natural resources, human rights and sustainable development. This event was aimed to imbibe a sense of commitment and responsibility of the students for sustainable development.
