Inauguration of CMR University Collaboration with IBM by Mr. Phil Tasker, Global Head, IBM-ICE (Innovation Centre for Education) and Consultative Meeting on “Improving Technology Enabled Learning Effectiveness through University & Industry Knowledge Partnership”

Bangalore, March 12, 2014:

“The technology skills have become 1st priority in business, followed by people skills in 2nd priority, as per the recent ‘CEO Study – 2012’. It is interesting to note that tech-skills were in 6th rank of importance in 2004 and this is due to 90% of all information available on planet today is produced in last 2 years. Hence, we are at the crucial juncture of ‘game changing role’ as we commence Industry-integrated Education Programs, which will have far-reaching impact in creating trained talent pool for the benefit industry & society” said Chief Guest Mr.Phil Tasker, Program Director – STG Education & Worldwide University Power Academic Initiative of IBM, while inaugurating the historic collaboration between IBM Innovation Centre for Education (IBM-ICE) and CMR University, for offering various UG & PG programs in Non-Engineering domains.

He also made reference to many areas for collaboration and said “IBM and CMR University have synergy to work upon Tripartite Educational Partnership with Mzumbe University in Tanzania – where CMRU is already having Academic partnership – for offering Engineering programs; offering University & Industry-Technology trainings through variety of Certification & Vocational Trainings; encouraging Professors of CMR University and CMR Institute of Technology to apply for Globally Competitive Research Grants in IBM, thereby creating a total eco-system to enhance the Education Engagement to produce high-quality tech-talent in India”. Mr.Phil also addressed CMRIT Engineering students briefly & advised them to focus on building a good career, with tech & people management skills. Responding to these remarks, Dr.Sanjay Chitnis, Principal of CMR Institute of Technology offered to start a “IBM Chair for Excellence in Technology & Management” at CMRIT and request guidance from Mr.Phil and IBM-ICE team in India.

While delivering his Presidential address Dr.Anand K. Joshi, Vice Chancellor mentioned that “CMR University has envisioned in becoming the trend-setting Education provider in building knowledge & skill-sets of industry application and social relevance, thereby bringing IT applications in Management, Finance, Commerce & Economics domains in both corporate & Non-corporate entities”. He also expressed his happiness about collaboration with IBM by innovating & co-evolving the curriculum from skill-dimension, than just knowledge-acquiring academic process, thus making it a win-win-win partnership among IBM, CMRU & Student community.

“CMR University wishes to become one of the distinct University known for its Knowledge partnerships, thereby bring significant value-addition in Education Scenario in India to impart high quality and technology-enabled education. Nothing will be ordinary in CMR University from campus design to faculty resource, students’ quality, program delivery, etc and it should become a flagship innovator in Education”, said Shri. K.R. Jayadeep, Guest of Honour & Pro-Vice Chancellor, CMR University, while sharing his thoughts on the vision of CMR University’s thought-leadership.

The meeting was attended by the Executive Delegation from IBM comprising Mr.Himesh Misra, Progra Director & Mr.Hari, Mr.Vithal, Ms. Rajaani & Mr. Sujit and  Senior Management Executives and Academic leaders of CMR University (CMRU), Deans / Directors / Principals and Vice Principals of CMR Group of Institutions (CMRGI). The introduction on purpose of CMRU-IBM collaboration & welcome was done by Dr.Nandeesh V. Hiremath, Professor & Program Director (CMRU-IBM Programs) and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.Sanjay Chitnis, Principal, CMRIT and event was conducted at CMR Institute of Technology Campus.
