Inauguration of 1st International Conference on Responsible Business and Sustainable Development

The first International Conference on Responsible Business and Sustainable Development (ICRBSD) 2017 organised by the School of Management, CMR University saw a host of international academicians and experts put out their views on dire need for responsible business and sustainable development across the globe.

About ICRBSD2017 and Conference Theme:

The increasing participation of the businesses in international initiatives like UN Global Compact (UNGC) andGlobal Reporting Initiative (GRI) indicate the change in way how corporations are redefining theirresponsibilities and changing strategies for shared value creation in the society. Realizing the need to explore strategic issues and action-agenda forresponsible businesses, the CMRUniversity, School of Management establishes an international conferenceseries on ‘Responsible Business and Sustainable Development (ICRBSD).’ The first edition of the conferenceICRBSD 2017 focuses on theme ‘Collective Action for Corporate Social Responsibility Impact: Strategic Issuesand Way Forward.’ICRBSD 2017 aims to provide a scholarly platform for dialogue and debate onissues related to promote collective action for greater social responsibility impact.

During the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Jos Hillegersberg,University of Twente, Netherlands, said, “Sustainable development is definitely the need of the hour, to educate and inculcate socially effective strategies at the institutional and managerial levels.  Students must be challenged to develop sustainable business ideas”.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Ronald E Berenbiem, SternSchool of Business, New York University, New York,“This is an era of national fragmentation and cut- throat competition in the business world. Laws must be implemented to ensure use of sustainable business ideas and students and teachers must be educated about the need of sharing resources so that societies and people are benefitted”.

Mr.Pooran Chandra Pandey,CEO, Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute, Berlin, appreciated the choice of the conference theme, and said that it fits in well with the urgent need of the hour with regard to the changing nature of modern businesses. “Corporate houses and scholars must realise the significance of training budding managers in thinking social and developing innovative strategies to help mankind. Leadership and education is vital in creating and maintaining a certain culture of sustainable business and social impact strategies in the near future,” stated Mr Pandey.

 Prof. M.S. Shivakumar, Vice Chancellor, CMR University, thanked all the scholars and delegates for participating in the conference and also stressed on the importance of such initiatives like responsible business and sustainable development at institutional level which has its impact on global platform.

Dr. C.M. Bhaskar Reddy, Director, CMR Group of Institutions, Dr Praveen R, Registrar, CMRU, Prof S.K Balaraman, Registrar, Evaluation, CMRU, Prof Shiv K. Tripathi, Dean and Senior Professor and Organising Secretary,ICRBSD, CMRU were also present at the conference.

As many as 75 delegates participated and 65 academicians and research scholars presented papers at the conference.  The ICRBSD2017 saw four technical sessions and two plenary sessions revolving around the collective action for sustainable business, corporate social responsibility, sustainability in Indian context, ecosystem of CSR and sustainability.

At the valedictory, CMR Journal of Innovation & Research Volume – II and Issue 1 & 2 was released by Prof. Wolfgang C Amann, HEC Paris, Qatar. Four papers were identified and were presented with best paper award.
