For the second annual convocation of CMR University, Shri. Vajubhai Vala, Governor of Karnataka,  and Shri. N R Narayana Murthy, Founder of Infosys Ltd., graced the occasion and reminded graduating students about the role they will play in the nation’s growth. The convocation was held on 17th January at Dwani Auditorium, CMRIT Campus.

Shri. Vala, The Visitor to the University, presided the Convocation and conferred the degrees. Shri N R Narayana Murthy, Chief Guest, delivered the Convocation Address to the gathering of teachers, CMR University leadership, graduating students, and their parents.

The other dignitaries at the event included Shri. K C Ramamurthy (Retired IPS Officer, MP, and Chairman of the CMR Group of Institutions), Dr. Sabitha Ramamurthy (Chancellor, CMR University), and Smt. Shanthamma Gopalkrishna (Dean, National Public Schools) who was conferred with Honoris Causa from the university.

In his Convocation Address, Shri. Narayana Murthy drew from his rich experience and spoke eloquently about the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead of students. With references from economics, history, and even Bollywood, Shri. Narayana Murthy made a passionate appeal to the bright, young minds of CMR University in solving the nation’s pressing problems.

With a political career spanning more than four decades in which he presented the budget for Gujarat a record 18 times, Shri Vajubhai Vala came from an entirely different background. However, he picked up from where Shri. Murthy left by giving a rousing speech in Hindi. With his humour and oratory, Shri. Vala emphasized the need for self-discipline and exhorted students to help India reclaim its rightful place in the world.

As always, the convocation was also an important milestone for students and teachers alike. For our teachers, it was the final step of preparing students for the world outside. For the students, it was a moment of pride, a parting with friends, and an important rite of passage. All in all, it was an inspiring day for the students and an important milestone for CMR University.

We wish the students luck for all their future endeavours.
