One of the top private universities in Bangalore, CMR University, which is dedicated to nurturing creative thinkers to drive positive global change, now has a major feather in its cap. Dr Sabitha Ramamurthy – Chancellor of CMR University has been honored on the occasion of International Women’s Day by Public TV (a leading Kannada news channel).
This honor is in recognition of Dr Sabitha’s exemplary contribution to the field of education over three decades. Recognizing her contributions, Public TV awarded her the prestigious “Nari Narayani” award while declaring her as a “Public Hero.”
At this juncture, it is worth noting that Dr Sabitha’s unwavering focus on making quality education inclusive for all has resulted in CMR University, one of the top degree colleges in Bangalore, being granted the Private University status in 2013. Prior to establishing CMR University along with her husband Shri K.C. Ramamurthy (M.P – Rajya Sabha), Dr Sabitha first established the CMR National Junior School in a family guava orchid in 1991.
Beginning with 6 students, the school grew by leaps and bounds leading to the formation of the CMR Jnanadhara Trust which now monitors all functions of CMR University, and the CMR Group of Institutions (consisting of a number of schools, colleges, and higher education institutes including the popular CMR Institute of Technology).
A major step that CMR University (with Dr Sabitha’s mentoring) has taken towards ensuring quality education for the masses is the CMR Memorial Scholarship initiative through which financial aid is provided to needy and deserving students from across India. So far, more than INR 1 crores worth of scholarships have been disbursed.
Under her leadership, the University introduced Design Thinking and Learning by Doing pedagogies for all Schools of Studies. Through these, young minds are better equipped to solve problems through analytical and lateral thinking approaches.
Today, with nearly 600 students (both national and international) pursuing higher education programmes at CMR University, one of the best private universities in Karnataka, and leading media publications having featured the University amongst the best private Universities in the country, Dr Sabitha believes that the journey has only just begun.
Ably backed by Shri K.C. Ramamurthy and other family members, Dr Sabitha candidly states that humbly going about her work of empowering minds is her best stress buster.
