International Yoga Day was celebrated in the University on June 21, 2018, in the City campus of University as well as the campus of School of Engineering & Technology. All the faculty and staff members participated with full zest in the celebration of Yoga Day.
For the Yoga celebration at the City Campus, a session was held by Ms. Isha Sharma, Yoga Teacher at ishavasYOGA, a freelance yoga teacher and a volunteer. Before starting the session the dignitaries spoke about the benefits of practising yoga for mental and physical health. They also suggested that with regular practice of yoga it effects the quality of life and outlook.
The Yoga Day was celebrated at Design Thinking Lab in 2nd floor. The session was led by Dr. Subrahmanya Reddy and began with a prayer followed by talk that reminded the importance of Ashtanga Yoga and ‘Yoga in daily life’.
Different asanas were demonstrated and performed which included Tadasana, Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), Kursiasana (Chair Pose), Virdabhadrasana, Utkatasana,
Parsvottanasana etc. Surya Namaskar was also performed and followed by Pranayama (Bhastrika, kapalabhati, Bhramari, anuloma, viloma kriyas) and meditation, that connects link between physical (asanas) and mental (meditation) yogic practices which increases and enhances the quantity and quality of prana(life). The session started at 9.00 AM and continued till 11.30 AM.
