Since the first introduction at Harvard University in 1908, the MBA as a formal degree, has witnessed significant changes in terms of its objectives, scope and character. Once considered essential for managing manufacturing processes scientifically, the degree is now one of the most flexible and generic when it comes to trained leadership and management need. Even one may now see increasing number of management graduates finding place in many non-profit and other organizations, which were earlier not considered relevant for MBA.

This implies the growing acceptability of the skills, knowledge and attitude set delivered through the multi-disciplinary MBA programme. However, this also possesses a challenge in terms of balancing the academic requirements to meet the industry expectations, which is changing fast under the rapid changing environmental factors. The management education, which comprises of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, requires continuous research-focused action to improve its’ quality. While celebrating 111 years of successful journey of MBA as an academic programme, CMR Group of Institutions and CMRU University establishes a conference series ‘CMR Management Education Conference (CMR-MEC)’, which will be an annual scholarly event with the aim of enhancing quality and relevance of management education. This year, the conference theme is ‘MBA Journey 111: Emerging Opportunities and Challenges’.
